Abstract

Abstract. The rapid development of generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) has transformed the way students carry out academic activities, from searching for references to completing coursework. While AI improves efficiency, it also raises concerns regarding academic integrity, particularly because the boundary between reasonable AI use and violations of academic honesty remains unclear. This study aims to describe students’ perceptions of the ethics of AI use in academic activities and identify the factors influencing these perceptions. The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach using a survey method. Data were collected through an online questionnaire (Google Forms) completed by 29 student respondents and analyzed descriptively by calculating the percentage of responses for each statement category to identify patterns in students’ perceptions and the factors influencing them. The findings indicate that students generally demonstrate a high level of awareness regarding the ethics of AI use and tend to regard AI as a reasonable tool in academic activities. However, their perceptions are influenced by personal experience, institutional policies, social environment, task pressure, and awareness of sanctions. These findings provide a deeper understanding of how students perceive the ethics of AI use and offer insights for educational institutions in developing responsible AI usage policies while encouraging students to maintain academic integrity in the era of artificial intelligence.
