Abstract. The constant exposure to negative news on social media has fueled doomscrolling, a compulsive habit of scrolling through negative content. While anxiety is considered a key antecedent, prior studies have treated anxiety as a unidimensional construct without distinguishing state anxiety from trait anxiety. This study aimed to examine the relationships between state anxiety, trait anxiety, and doomscrolling among social media users in Bandung, Indonesia. A cross‑sectional correlational design was employed, involving 151 participants aged 18‑25 years. The State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) Form Y and the Doomscrolling Scale were used. Spearman correlation analysis revealed significant positive associations between state anxiety (ρ = .327, p < .001) and doomscrolling, as well as between trait anxiety (ρ = .445, p < .001) and doomscrolling. Trait anxiety demonstrated a stronger correlation, suggesting that dispositional anxiety is a more robust factor in compulsive negative news consumption. These findings underscore the need to differentiate anxiety types in understanding doomscrolling and can inform digital literacy programs aimed at reducing the behavior
