Abstract

Abstract. Active TikTok users increasingly display digital stress associated with intensive exposure to other users' curated achievement and lifestyle content, a pattern closely linked to social comparison. This article synthesizes the theoretical and empirical relevance of social comparison, digital stress, and the potential moderating role of mindfulness among TikTok-using emerging adults through a literature review. Digital stress is conceptualized as a five-dimensional condition (availability stress, approval anxiety, fear of missing out, connection overload, online vigilance) with identifiable antecedents and consequences. Social comparison is examined through its ability- and opinion-comparison dimensions, with upward social comparison dominant on algorithm-driven platforms such as TikTok and linked to negative self-evaluation. Mindfulness is then discussed as a multidimensional self-regulatory capacity that may weaken this relationship through cognitive appraisal, antecedent-focused emotion regulation, and decentering. Although no study has directly tested mindfulness as a moderator of the social comparison-digital stress link among TikTok users, converging evidence from smartphone and social media research shows mindfulness consistently weakens negative digital impacts. The review concludes that mindfulness is theoretically coherent and empirically plausible as a protective mechanism, and proposes moderated regression analysis for future empirical testing.

Stres digital dikonseptualisasikan sebagai kondisi lima dimensi (availability stress, approval anxiety, fear of missing out, connection overload, online vigilance) beserta faktor dan dampaknya.
