Abstract

Abstract. Working students often face dual demands as both employees and students, a condition that can give rise to Work-study conflict. This conflict has the potential to influence individuals' level of Work engagement in their jobs. This study aims to determine the effect of Work-study conflict on Work engagement among working students in the city of Bandung. A quantitative approach was used, involving 213 working students obtained through non-probability sampling with the convenience sampling technique. Data were collected using a translated Work-study conflict scale developed from Markel and Frone's framework, along with the Utrecht Work engagement Scale (UWES-17). Data were analyzed using SPSS version 29 through classical assumption testing followed by simple linear regression analysis at a significance level of 0.05. The results show that Work-study conflict has a significant negative effect on Work engagement among working students in Bandung (F = 11.209; p < 0.001), with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.050, indicating that Work-study conflict accounts for 5% of the variance in Work engagement. Descriptive findings reveal that the majority of respondents reported low levels of both Work-study conflict and Work engagement, suggesting that Work engagement among working students is shaped by factors beyond Work-study conflict alone.
