Abstract

Abstract. Burnout is a psychological problem experienced by workers facing high job demands, including police officers under constant operational pressure. Hardiness is a personality trait that helps individuals cope with work-related stress adaptively, reducing burnout. This study examines the effect of hardiness on burnout among police officers in the Traffic Unit of the Garut District Police. The method employed was a quantitative approach with a causal design, using a questionnaire to measure levels of hardiness and burnout. The sample comprised 135 police officers from the Traffic Unit of the Garut District Police, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Personal Views Survey III (PVS III) by Maddi (2013), adapted by Endang Erawati (2024), comprising 24 items, and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) by Maslach, Schaufeli, and Leiter (2001), adapted by Heri Yulianto (2020), comprising 22 items. Data analysis was carried out using simple linear regression. The results indicate that hardiness has a significant negative effect on burnout, with a regression coefficient of -0.736, a t-value of -9.829, and a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The coefficient of determination (R²) was 0.421, indicating that hardiness accounts for 42.1% of the variance in burnout.
