Father Involvement, Preferensi Perempuan Memilih Pasangan, dan Forgiveness sebagai Moderator

Abstract. Mate preference is an important aspect for emerging adult women because it relates to how individuals evaluate prospective partners in long-term romantic relationships. Problems arise when mate preference becomes overly idealistic, unrealistic, or shaped by past relational experiences. One factor presumed to play a role is father involvement. Forgiveness is also considered important because it can help individuals make more adaptive meaning of their relational experience with their father. This study aims to examine the effect of father involvement on mate preference and to test the role of forgiveness as a moderator. This study used a quantitative causal design with a moderating variable. Participants were 117 emerging adult women aged 22-30 years in Bandung City, selected through purposive sampling. Father involvement was measured using the Nurturance Fathering Scale (Finley & Schwartz, 2004), mate preference was measured using the Nine Mate Selection (Townsend, 1989), and forgiveness was measured using the Heartland Forgiveness Scale (Thompson et al., 2005). Data were analyzed using linear regression and moderated regression analysis. The results showed that father involvement had a positive and significant effect on mate preference (β = 0.429, p < .001), forgiveness also had a positive and significant effect on mate preference (β = 0.143, p < .001), and the interaction between father involvement and forgiveness significantly moderated the relationship (β = 0.025, p < .001). The model explained 50.6% of the variance in mate preference (R² = 0.506). These findings indicate that forgiveness strengthens the relationship between father involvement and mate preference.
Abstrak. Preferensi memilih pasangan merupakan aspek penting pada perempuan dewasa awal karena berkaitan dengan cara individu menilai calon pasangan dalam relasi romantis jangka panjang. Permasalahan muncul ketika preferensi pasangan menjadi terlalu ideal, kurang realistis, atau dipengaruhi pengalaman relasional masa lalu. Salah satu faktor yang diduga berperan adalah keterlibatan ayah. Forgiveness juga dipandang penting karena dapat membantu individu memaknai pengalaman relasional dengan ayah secara lebih adaptif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh father involvement terhadap preferensi memilih pasangan serta menguji peran forgiveness sebagai moderator. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuantitatif kausalitas dengan variabel moderasi. Subjek penelitian berjumlah 117 perempuan dewasa awal berusia 22-30 tahun di Kota Bandung yang dipilih menggunakan purposive sampling. Father involvement diukur menggunakan Nurturance Fathering Scale dari Finley dan Schwartz (2004), preferensi memilih pasangan diukur menggunakan Nine Mate Selection dari Townsend (1989), dan forgiveness diukur menggunakan Heartland Forgiveness Scale dari Thompson dkk. (2005). Data dianalisis menggunakan uji regresi linear dan regresi moderasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa father involvement berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap preferensi memilih pasangan (β = 0,429; p < 0,001), forgiveness juga berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap preferensi memilih pasangan (β = 0,143; p < 0,001), serta interaksi antara father involvement dan forgiveness berperan sebagai moderator yang signifikan (β = 0,025; p < 0,001). Model penelitian mampu menjelaskan 50,6% variasi preferensi memilih pasangan (R² = 0,506). . Dengan demikian, forgiveness memperkuat hubungan antara father involvement dan preferensi memilih pasangan.
