Abstract

Abstract. Bullying in higher education is a form of interpersonal trauma that can have serious consequences for students' mental health, including prolonged anger, resentment, and difficulties in the forgiveness process. Forgiveness is essential to prevent the long-term psychological consequences of traumatic experiences, and one psychological factor that may facilitate forgiveness is post-traumatic growth (PTG). This study aimed to examine the effect of post-traumatic growth on forgiveness among university students who have experienced bullying. The study employed a quantitative approach using a predictive correlational design. A total of 122 university students with experiences of bullying were selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used were an adapted version of the Post-Traumatic Growth Inventory (PTGI) based on the theory of Tedeschi and Calhoun, and the Transgression-Related Interpersonal Motivations (TRIM-18) scale based on McCullough's theory. The categorization results indicated that both post-traumatic growth and forgiveness were at high levels. The findings revealed a positive and significant effect of post-traumatic growth on forgiveness (B = 0.332, p < .001, and R2 = 0.125), with post-traumatic growth accounting for 12.5% of the variance in forgiveness. These findings suggest that higher levels of post-traumatic growth are associated with higher levels of forgiveness among university students who have experienced bullying. Therefore, post-traumatic growth serves as an important psychological factor that facilitates the forgiveness process among victims of bullying in higher education.
