Pengaruh Loneliness terhadap Problematic Internet Use pada Mahasiswa di Kota Bandung
Abstract
Abstract. Loneliness is one of the most common problems that students face. In reducing these problems, the use of the internet is one way that can be done by students. However, the internet has negative benefits if its use becomes problematic and has a negative impact on life. This is called problematic internet use. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of loneliness on problematic internet use in strata one students in Bandung. This study uses a quantitative approach to the design of causality to determine cause and effect. The research sample consisted of 230 students in Bandung who were selected by utilizing accidental sampling technique. The measurement tool used is UCLA Loneliness Scale Version 3 compiled by Russell (1996) and adapted by Hudiyana et al. (2021) and Generalized Problematic Internet Use Scale 2 (GPIUS2) developed by Caplan (2010) and adapted by Sokang (2019). The results showed that the majority of students had a moderate level of loneliness (75.2%) and a moderate level of problematic internet use (58.7%). Regression analysis proved that loneliness has a significant positive effect on problematic internet use (t = 0.000, p-value < 0.05), with a contribution of 13.2%. So it can be interpreted if loneliness increases, then problematic internet use will increase. Conversely, if loneliness decreases, then problematic internet use will decrease.
