Abstract

Abstract. Smartphones can have an impact on human life. With proper utilization of smartphones, a person can keep up with the development of knowledge and add insight. On the other hand, many smartphone users experience the effects of nomophobia. Individuals become more intense in using smartphones, especially when they feel lonely. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of loneliness on nomophobia in overseas students in Bandung City more comprehensively. The research method uses a quantitative approach with causality techniques. Social and Emotional Loneliness Scale Short Version adapted by Putri (2022) was used to measure loneliness, nomophobia was measured by Nomophobia Questionnaire adapted by Warsah et al. (2023). Data processing analysis using multiple linear regression. Through purposive sampling, 102 samples of students from outside West Java who migrated in Bandung City were obtained. The results showed that loneliness simultaneously affects nomophobia with a significance value of 0.00 <0.05 with an R Square value of 0.344, meaning that loneliness contributed 34.4% to nomophobia. Partial test results show that romantic loneliness has a significant effect on nomophobia, but family loneliness and social loneliness have no effect on nomophobia.
