The Effect of Online Social Support on the Self-Esteem of Cyber Dating Abuse

Abstract

Abstract. Research shows that victim of cyber dating abuse  tend to experience significant psychological impacts, including decreased self-esteem, anxiety, and depression. Individual self-esteem plays an important role in responding to violence in relationships, with individuals with low self-esteem being more vulnerable to the negative impacts of cyber datinig abuse. Therefore, social support, especially online social support, can function as a protective factor that helps individuals recover or maintain positive self-esteem. This study aims to examine the effect of online social support on the self-esteem of cyber dating abuse victims in West Jawa. This research is a quantitative study with 301 subjects. Yhe measuring instrument used are the online social support scale and Rosenberg’s self-esteem scale adapted by Azwar (2012). The data analysis used is SEM-PLS which produces t-statitic >t-table (22.859>1.968) and significance (p-value) 0.000<0.05, indicating a significant effect of online social support om teh self-esteem of cyber dating abuse victims.

Abstrak. Penelitian menunjukkan bahwa korban cyber dating abuse cenderung mengalami dampaka psikologis yang signifikan, termasuk penurunan harga diri, kecemasan, dan depresi. Harga diri indvidu berperan penting dalam merespon kekerasan dalam hubungan, dengan individu yang memiliki harga diri rendah lebih rentan terhadap dampak negatif dari cyber dating abuse. Oleh karena itu, dukungan sosial, khususnya dukungan sosial daring, dapat berfungsi sebagai faktor pelindung yang membantu individu dalam memulihkan atau mempertahankan harga diri yang positif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh dukungan sosial daring terhadap harga diri korban cyber dating abuse di Jawa Barat. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kuantitatif dengan subyek sebanyak 301. Alat ukur yang digunakan adalah the online social support scale dan Rosenberg’s self esteem scale yang telah diadaptasi oleh Azwar (2012). Analisis data yang digunakan adalah SEM-PLS yang menghasilkan t-statistik>ttabel (22.859>1.968) dan signifikasnsi (pvalue) 0.000<0.05, yang mana terdapat pengaruh dukungan sosial daring yang signifikan terhadap harga diri korban cyber dating abuse.
