Hubungan antara Fear of Missing Out dengan Kesejahteraan Subjektif Siswa SMP
Abstract
Abstract. FoMO (Fear of Missing Out) describes individuals' tendency to use social media to avoid missing out or feeling left behind by others. This study examines the contribution of FoMO to subjective well-being (SWB) among junior high school students in Bandung. A cross-sectional quantitative method was used, with stratified cluster random sampling for participant selection. The study involved 767 students aged 12–16 years, comprising 50.6% female and 49.4% male students. The ON-FoMO and Children’s Worlds Subjective Well-Being Scale 5 (CW-SWBS5) were employed as measurement tools. Results indicate that FoMO among participants falls within the moderate category, while their SWB (M = 70.8; SD = 26.9) is significantly lower than average based on Cummins set-points (p < .05). Linear regression analysis revealed that FoMO negatively affects SWB, particularly through the dimensions of belongingness (β = -.237, p < .000) and addiction (β = -.150, p = .007). These findings suggest that FoMO can diminish SWB among junior high school students. Consequently, it is essential to provide guidance to help adolescents manage social media use effectively and promote better well-being.
Alat ukur yang digunakan Online Fear of Missing Out (ON-FoMO) dan Children’s World yaitu Children’s Worlds Subjective Well-Being Scale 5 (CW-SWBS5).
