Abstract

Abstract. Future anxiety is a psychological problem that tends to emerge in their twenties or during their college years. Future anxiety can impact their mental health and academic and non-academic performance. Trait mindfulness, which is defined as the ability to be aware of thoughts, feelings, and sensations in the present moment with an attitude of acceptance and non-judgement of self experience. Trait mindfulness can act as one of the protective factors against future anxiety, helping individuals to manage stress more effectively and face life's challenges with a calm and mindful attitude. This study aims to examine the role of trait mindfulness on future anxiety among university students in Bandung City. This study used a non-experimental quantitative approach with a cross-sectional research design. Participants consisted of 339 students from various universities in Bandung City with Convenience sampling technique. Trait mindfulness was measured using the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ), developed by Baer et al. (2006) and adapted by Meindy et al. (2022). Future anxiety was measured using a measuring instrument constructed by Syams et al. (2023), based on the theories and concepts developed by Hammad (2016). Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression techniques. The results of this study indicate that there is an influence of trait mindfulness on future anxiety in university students in Bandung City with a contribution of 12.7%. The results of this study indicate the need for a more in-depth approach in understanding how trait mindfulness plays a role in future anxiety in university students. Mindfulness-based interventions may need to be adjusted to be more effective in the context of college students.
