Abstract

Abstract. Coffee shops are one of the business sectors that students choose to do part time. Students who work will have two different demands which can cause work study conflicts. Work study conflict is an experience when the demands and responsibilities of work interfere with a person's ability to handle the demands and responsibilities of education. Apart from demands on studies, students have demands for responsibility at work regarding their work performance. Work engagement is something positive that is related to behavior at work which includes thoughts about the relationship between workers or employees and their work, which is characterized by vigor, dedication, and absorption in work. This research aims to obtain empirical data regarding the influence of work-study conflict on work engagement among part-time students in Bandung city coffee shops with 100 part-time students in Bandung city coffee shops as respondents. This research was conducted using the Work-study conflict measuring instrument which refers to the theory of Markel & Frone (1998) and using the UWES measuring instrument which consists of 17 items which is a development of the measuring instrument from Schaufeli et al., (2010). The sampling technique used is the convenience sampling technique. The method used is a quantitative causality method with simple linear regression analysis techniques. The results of this research show that the large contribution of the influence of work-study conflict (X) on work engagement (Y) among part-time students in coffee shops in the city of Bandung can be seen through the coefficient of determination of 8.80%, which means that work-study conflict has an insignificant effect on work engagement.
