Uji Aktivitas Antibakteri Ekstrak Etanol Daun Benalu Teh (Scurrula atropurpurea (BL.) Dans) Terhadap Bakteri Penyebab Jerawat (Propionibacterium acnes dan Staphylococcus epidermidis)

Abstract

Abstract. Acne is a skin disease, one of which is caused by the bacteria Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis. Mistletoe tea (Scurrula atropurpurea (BL.) Dans) is a plant that has the potential as an antibacterial. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanol extract of mistletoe tea leaves (Scurrula atropurpurea (BL.) Dans) against Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis as well as to compare its effectiveness against both bacteria. Extraction was carried out using the maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. Antibacterial activity test was carried out by the agar diffusion method using wells. The results showed that the ethanol extract of mistletoe tea leaves had antibacterial activity against both test bacteria at concentrations of 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% with the resulting inhibition diameter against Propionibacterium acnes bacteria being 12,67 mm, 14,83 mm, 17,40 mm and 17,60 mm. Whereas for Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria, respectively were 21,80 mm, 23,90 mm, 25,67 mm and 26,50 mm. Based on the resulting inhibition zone, the ethanol extract of tea parasite leaves (Scurrula atropurpurea (BL.) Dans) has strong activity in inhibiting the growth of Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis bacteria at concentrations above 20%.

Abstrak. Jerawat merupakan penyakit kulit yang salah satunya disebabkan oleh bakteri Propionibacterium acnes dan Staphylococcus epidermidis. Benalu teh (Scurrula atropurpurea (BL.) Dans) merupakan tanaman yang berpotensi sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktivitas antibakteri ekstrak etanol daun benalu teh (Scurrula atropurpurea (BL.) Dans) terhadap Propionibacterium acnes dan Staphylococcus epidermidis serta perbandingan efektivitas terhadap kedua bakeri. Ekstraksi dilakukan menggunakan metode maserasi dengan menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%. Uji aktivitas antibakteri dilakukan dengan metode difusi agar menggunakan sumuran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak etanol daun benalu teh memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap kedua bakteri uji pada konsentrasi 20%, 30%, 40%, dan 50% dengan diameter hambat yang dihasilkan terhadap bakteri Propionibacterium acnes berturut-turut adalah 12,67 mm, 14,83 mm, 17,40 mm, dan 17,60 mm. Sedangkan terhadap bakteri Staphylococcus epidermidis berturut-turut adalah 21,80 mm, 23,90 mm, 25,67 mm, dan 26,50 mm. Berdasarkan zona hambat yang dihasilkan, ekstrak etanol daun benalu teh (Scurrula atropurpurea (BL.) Dans) memiliki aktivitas kuat dalam menghambat pertumbuhan bakteri Propionibacterium acnes dan Staphylococcus epidermidis pada konsentrasi diatas 20%.
