Abstract

Abstract. A laceration is skin damage caused by sharp-object trauma and may lead to bleeding and infection. Sembung leaves (Blumea balsamifera L.) contain flavonoids with potential wound-healing activity. This study aimed to determine the optimal formulation of a patch containing ethanol extract of Sembung leaves and to evaluate its in vivo wound-healing efficacy. Patch optimization was performed using a trial-and-error method by varying HPMC and PVP concentrations. Formula 3, containing 2.25% HPMC and 0.75% PVP, was selected as the optimal base. The patch was round, blackish-green, homogeneous, had a characteristic extract aroma, moisture content of the patch (7.26% ± 0.2), weight uniformity (0.02 g ± 0.00), thickness (0.3 mm ± 0), fold resistance >200 times, and pH (6.37 ± 0.01).  Furthermore, the results of the 5% patch formula (F3C) showed the best efficacy in wound healing on the.
