Kajian Pemanfaatan Kulit Pisang sebagai Prebiotik Alami untuk Meningkatkan Kesehatan
Abstract
Abstract. Banana peel has been recognized as a nutrient-rich source of polysaccharides and oligosaccharides with potential prebiotic activity. Components such as resistant starch, cellulose, and inulin can support the growth of probiotic bacteria. These compounds play a role in enhancing the growth of microorganisms such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, as well as increasing the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), which are beneficial for health. This study aims to evaluate the prebiotic potential of banana peel based on its variety, bioactive content, and the types of probiotic bacteria it supports. The review was conducted using a narrative descriptive literature review method, which involves collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing information from various scientific sources. The findings indicate that the resistant starch and inulin content in banana peel effectively promote the growth of Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus plantarum, and Bifidobacterium longum. Additionally, the prebiotic activity of banana peel has the potential to inhibit the growth of certain pathogenic bacteria, thereby contributing to microbiota balance in the digestive tract and skin health.
Abstrak. Kulit pisang telah dikenal sebagai sumber nutrisi yang kaya polisakarida dan oligosakarida dengan potensi aktivitas prebiotik. Kandungan seperti pati resisten, selulosa, dan inulin mampu mendukung pertumbuhan bakteri probiotik. Senyawa-senyawa tersebut berperan dalam meningkatkan pertumbuhan mikroorganisme seperti Lactobacillus dan Bifidobacterium, serta meningkatkan produksi short chain fatty acid (SCFA) yang bermanfaat bagi kesehatan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi potensi prebiotik kulit pisang berdasarkan varietas, kandungan bioaktif, dan jenis bakteri probiotik yang didukung pertumbuhannya. Kajian ini dilakukan dengan metode tinjauan pustaka secara naratif deskriptif, yaitu dengan mengumpulkan, menganalisis, dan menyusun informasi dari berbagai sumber ilmiah terkait. Hasil tinjauan menunjukkan bahwa kandungan pati resisten dan inulin dalam kulit pisang efektif meningkatkan pertumbuhan Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus plantarum, dan Bifidobacterium longum. Selain itu, aktivitas prebiotik kulit pisang juga berpotensi menekan pertumbuhan bakteri patogen tertentu, sehingga berkontribusi terhadap keseimbangan mikrobiota dalam saluran pencernaan dan kesehatan kulit.
