Gambaran Heart Rate Variability pada Perokok Usia Muda Berdasarkan Jumlah Batang Rokok Perhari di Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Islam Bandung
Abstract
Abstract. Smoking has been related to the leading cause of preventable death worldwide, with more than 8 million people dying each year due to smoking-related diseases. In Indonesia, the prevalence of young smokers continues to rise, and the impact of smoking on heart’s health, has been known widely. The impact to heart’s health particularly, can be seen from detrction of changes in heart rate variability (HRV), which has become an important concern lately. It has been studied that heart rate duration varies, potentially ranging from 0.9 to 1.2 seconds or longer. Higher HRV has been relared to lower risk to xaediovascular events. ThIs research used method in HRV measurement with the Standard Deviation Of Normal To Normal (SDNN) approach or standard deviation of N-N intervals with a normal HRV value of 35.9 ± 15.5, pNN50 (percentage of NN intervals that differ by more than 50 milliseconds), and RMSSD (Root Mean Square of Successive Differences) to measure heart rate variability (HRV) with a total of subjects is 30 individuals aged 18 to 24 years, with distribution showed 20 subjects dominated in the group with age above 20 years. The results of this study indicated that using the pNN50 method, there were 5 individuals who had low HRV, where among these 5 individuals, 4 have been smoking for more than 4 years and 1 has just started smoking for 1 year. The HRV value using the SDNN method was low for smoker group, and the RMSSD method showed lower HRV results in smokers compared to non-smokers. This research focused on young smoker students at the Faculty of Medicine, Islamic University of Bandung, to explore the impact of smoking on heart rate variability (HRV). The aim of this study was to describe heart rate variability (HRV) in young smokers based on the number of cigarettes consumed per day at the Faculty of Medicine, Islamic University of Bandung.
