Abstract

Abstract. The relationship between sugar consumption and the degree of depression. The method utilized was a literature review, involving the collection, reading, analysis, and conclusion of previous research data to establish the connection between sugar consumption and the degree of depression. The findings of the study suggested the involvement of inflammatory processes in mediating the relationship between sugar consumption and depression, leading to hyperactivity of the HPA axis and a reduction in neurogenesis in the hippocampus. Consequently, alterations in plasticity occurred in the hippocampus, amygdala, and frontal cortex, resulting in diminished production of serotonin and norepinephrine, contributing to the onset of depression.
