Abstract

Abstract. Coal is a deposit composed of organic and inorganic materials. The organic material comes from plant remains that have undergone various levels of decay (decomposition) and changes in physical and chemical properties before and after being covered by other deposits. The inorganic materials in coal consist of various minerals that form as fine materials dispersed within the coal or accumulate into thin layers (Sutardji, 2009). Fly ash, also known as coal ash, is a byproduct of coal combustion. It is a fine powder produced when coal is burned and can be used as a raw material in various industries, such as construction and manufacturing. Fly ash consists of oxides, including silicon dioxide, aluminum, iron, and calcium oxide. Fly ash has several beneficial properties, including high strength, low permeability, and resistance to chemical attack. Fly ash is commonly used as a supplementary cementitious material in concrete and can also be used as a filler in asphalt, plastic, and paper products. Additionally, fly ash can be used as a raw material to produce zeolites and adsorbents. This research aims to analyze the main elements in fly ash by conducting XRF analysis. The XRF test seeks to determine the main minerals present in fly ash, with the compounds analyzed being SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, CaO, MgO, Na2O, K2O, TiO2, P2O5, MnO, SO3, H2O, and LOI. A total of 6 samples were tested, with sample codes A, B, C, D1, D2, and D3.
